Order of the Banished Hero
The knights of this order are devoted to the protection of the world from
evil of any type. They are known wanderers, traveling from land to land in
search of evils that they must overcome. When they find evil, they defeat
it or die in the attempt. They do not preach or accept praise. The knights
of this order allow their actions to speak for themselves.
The order was founded over five hundred years ago. Its beliefs and ideals
are based of the life of
Saint Hammel. Before the life of Hammel began, an
artifact of evil, a sword known as the Hunter of Paladins, possessed and
used evil warriors to slay every paladin who dared leave holy ground. Saint
Hammel was the first paladin to challenge the Hunter and defeat it. Legend
says that Hammel defeated the sword and its wielder seven times, but every
time, before Hammel could imprison the artifact, it escaped his grasp and
found a new warrior to possess. For decades, Hammel roamed Habololy in
search of the Hunter of Paladins. It was during these travels that Hammel
began to claim a reputation as a great hero.
Finally, with the help of Stasis, who was then a mortal, Hammel was able to
track down and capture the sword. Freed from the dangers of the evil
artifact, Hammel was able to devote his full attention to defeating evil
wherever it reared its ugly head. Hammel performed many of his deeds in the
name of Hemator, which eventually brought about his end. After Hemator left
the Counsil, Hammel became a threat to the Counsil, for he was a noble and
well-known follower of the treacherous deity. He was arrested by the
clerics of Han~Sui and tried before the high cleric of Everentual. Hammel
was found guilty of the worship of a cult and banished from Habololy.
The knights of the Order of the Banished Hero are all willing to make the
ultimate sacrifice that Hammel made. Many die fighting against evils that
they cannot overcome. They dream of a day when a knight will be able to
return home from her wanderings, knowing that the evils of Habololy have
been defeated.
The knights lead lonely lives. After they leave their master, the only
companions that they are likely to have are squires. Once their training is
complete, the knight will only return to her home in passing, never
remaining for more than a few days.
Although Hammel was a follower of Hemator, the knights of this order are
known to worship a variety of deities. It is their common goal that brings
the knights together. They all believe that their deeds in life are the
most important way to revere any deity. The knights are often Paladins, and
may continue their paladin training even after they have been initiated into
the order. Rangers and clerics are also common in the ranks of the order.
There has never been a berserker or tinker knight.
