The practitioners of Boronk ek Korda date back to the legendary Orcish warrior, Larius Korda. The only being of any race to win the Suian Competition and the Graplore, Korda developed the style that would come to bare his name. Before his arrival, the orcs practiced a form of wrestling, which although brutal, lacked form. The orcs had wrestled for sport for as long as any records had been kept, so Korda’s innovation had many willing students, who wished to become the best at the sport. It was not until Korda won the Graplore that the orcs realized how effective his teachings could be in sport and in war.
Before Korda began to teach, an orcish-wrestling match would continue until one of the orcs was unconscious, or until one had been knocked out of the fighting circle, which was about twenty-five feet in diameter. No armor is worn in these matches, and weapons are forbidden. Korda changed the rules by shrinking the circle to twenty feet in diameter and requiring one’s opponent to be removed from the circle. An unconscious opponent had to be removed from the circle before the match was over. The traditional fighting garb for the match was a leather kilt, which remained the same after Korda’s changes.
Boronk ek Korda, which means, “to fight as Korda did”, is a style of unarmed combat that emphasizes open-handed strikes and the ability to remain immoveable. A Boronk ek Kordan will allow his opponent to approach, and react quickly to any attack by attempting to knock down or throw his opponent. Powerful slaps and painful throws are the trademark of any Boronk ek Kordan, as is their overwhelming strength.
Few Boronk ek Kordans complete the training and become true masters of the style. It is a brutal path that includes endless sparring and training. Bodies are hardened and worn down over the years of practice. For that reason, there are few masters available to teach. Those that do are held in the highest regard, and are some of the most honored orcs in their society. The brutality of the training is also the reason that few other races learn Boronk ek Korda.
