There are many 'assassins' on
Habololy, but the traditional assassin as described here was the first. It
has been altered and molded by other races, notable the Amatine Gnomes and the
Horarians, who of course claim that their assassins came first. The truth
behind the origin of the traditional assassin will never be known. They
can be found in almost every nation and members of all races, except the two
noted above, have members who are assassins.

Weapon Proficiency: An assassin gains proficiency in the following
weapons if he is not already proficient: Crossbow (light, medium, heavy),
Dagger, Dart, Rapier, Sap, Short Bow and Short Sword. |
 |
Armor Proficiency:
An assassin gains proficiency in light armor
if he is not already proficient. |
 |
Sneak Attack: The assassin gains the
Sneak Attack ability as described in the Players' Handbook. If the
assassin already has this ability, then the bonus stacks with any bonuses the assassin already has for sneak
attacking. |
 |
Death Attack: If the assassin studies his victim for 3 rounds and
then makes a sneak attack with a melee weapon that successfully deals
damage, the sneak attack has the additional effect of possibly paralyzing or
killing the target. While studying the target, the assassin can take
other actions so long as his attention remains on the target and the target
does not recognize the assassin as an enemy. If the victim of such an
attack fails a Fortitude save equal to 10+ the assassin's level + the
assassin's Intelligence modifier; that victim is either killed or paralyzed
for 1d6 plus one round per assassin level. The assassin must choose
before the attack whether to attempt to kill or paralyze a target. If
the saving throw is successful, the attack still deals damage as a normal
sneak attack. The assassin must perform the attack within three rounds
of completing his observation. |
 |
Poison Use: The assassin is so familiar with using poisons that he
never risks accidentally poisoning himself. |
 |
Assassin Spells:
The assassin may select spells from any
Assassin spell list. These spells may only be cast from the
spellcasting class in which he has given the +1 caster level gained through
this prestige class. If a spell is on both the Assassin spell list and
on the spell list for the spellcasting class to which the assassin is giving
the +1 caster level, then the assassin may always use the lower level to
cast the spell. |
 |
Save Bonus Against Poison:
The assassin gains the bonus listed
above to all saving throws against poisons. |
 |
Uncanny Dodge: Same as described in the Players' Handbook. |
 |
+1 Caster Level: The assassin may add a caster level to any spellcaster
class he possesses at least one level in already. Once he selects a
class to add this level to, he may not select another class when he gains
further assassin levels. |
 |
Improved Uncanny Dodge: Same as described in the Players' Handbook. |
 |
Hide in Plain Sight:
Same as described in the Players' Handbook. |
