A D&D Campaign World

Valdis is a Half-Orc and hails from the Orcish Empire.  His mother was a slave who was sold to a dock worker for the price of an ale.  Valdis was the reason for this. When born, he was the most grotesque and pitiful looking thing that Valdis’ true father had ever seen.  In a society that holds strength in high regard, Valdis did not measure up, indeed his true father didn’t think he would even live very long.

Valdis was born with misshapen features that haunt him to this day.  He was ridiculed and beaten often as a child just because of his looks.  The almost constant need to defend himself helped build up Valdis’ frame.

Valdis’ mother was killed by the Ork Dock worker, Drazic, who had purchased them all those years ago, in a drunken rage. Valdis had been home when it had happened, had been in the same room.  With tears of anger and sadness streaming down his face, Valdis stood staring at the face of the only other being ever to show him anything other than revulsion. Drazic, laughing at the boy, came at him to give him some of the same treatment.  As the brute closed in, Valdis slowly came back to himself.  Valdis watched as Drazic pulled back a meaty fist.  Valdis cringed, putting his arms up in front of his face as the fist descended. He had never wanted to not be hit as much as he did at that moment. Suddenly there was a shimmering wall of force between Valdis and his attacker. Drazic struck the barrier. I t was a glancing blow, but Drazic was drunk and his blow landed earlier that he thought it would and it knocked him off balance.  Drazic fell with a crash, his head slamming into one of the wooden chairs in the room. Valdis looked at the fallen Drazic and noted the rise and fall of his chest.  There was no blood on the wooden chair and none around Drazic’s head so Valdis figured that the brute had just knocked himself unconscious.

Valdis decided then and there to leave.  Valdis filled two large backpacks with everything he could fit.  There was not much left to take in the entire house.  Many of the things he took, he would sell in the weeks to come. But, the last thing he took as he left the house was Drazic’s Battle Axe.  The brute had brandished it on more than one occasion and repeatedly threatened to use it on Valdis should Valdis anger him enough.

Valdis now sails on the “Vigilant Seas” a renowned Pirate hunting ship. He seeks to escape the memories of his past and to learn more about the abilities within him.

Tactics:
Valdis is a force to be reckoned with.  He is one of the first to board an enemy ship and uses his Psionic powers to help him clear a path for others to follow.
