Equipment: Those who see Lair usually notice his size and nothing
else. Taking a closer look will reveal that he wears the Graplore awards
belt around his leg. He carries no weapons, and wears no armor. At any
time he will have a collection of five to ten potions.
During the last Graplore tournament, he was given the nickname “Evictor”
due to his most common method of victory, to throw his opponent out of
the pit. Lair is the largest orc alive today. He is by no means a gentle
giant, but is far from a brute.
Lair began his training
as a warrior, as members of his family traditionally did. For several of
his early years, he impressed his superiors with his strength. It was
not until he grew to over seven feet tall that they began to think there
might be a better role for Lair. In fact, there had to be, because be
was getting to the point where no mount would have him.
His commanders introduced
Lair to a cleric of Tyrogatore, who quickly saw his potential. Lair was
trained for the next three years in the temple, and then returned to the
army, where he only served for half of a year. Besides not be able to
ride anything but a wagon, Lair could not see reliably over ten feet.
The army returned him to the temple, where the clerics began to train
him for a new goal, winning the Graplore. It had been far too long since
an orc had won, and the glory it would bring to the empire would be
great. The emperor himself took an interest in Lair’s training. He and
his family were given every luxury.
During the Graplore, lair
did the unbelievable, he was never knocked out. Unfortunately, when it
came to the final match, Lair could neither knock his opponent out, nor
toss him from the pit. Rather than kill the man, Lair conceded. The
emperor was furious, and banished Lair from the Empire for a decade
because of his so-called selfishness.
Lair now travels from
city to city and nation to nation simply waiting for a time when he can
return home and rejoin his family.
